Event Details
This is a free to the public event, hosted by Flight 19 International Plastic Modelers Society to celebrate, educate, and showcase Gundam model builders from all across South Florida. Come compete with your very own builds, learn new tips and techniques, see builds from advanced hobbyists, check out merch from our vendors, and enter our raffle for a chance to win some great Gundam prizes from our sponsors!
Our raffle is open to all in attendance, and our contest covers several scale categories including specialized youth categories. Each category is open for awards, and special award prizes will be given out by Tate's for Best In Show, as well as our President's Award to Best Spirited Kits from all our main categories, as well as Best In Show from our youth categories.

Entry & Judging
Criteria
1) All modeling work should be completed by entrant, including juniors.
2) Models are not limited to any single material. (Styrene, resin, photo-etch metal)
3) Juniors category is limited to participants under 12 years of age. Juniors are not restricted to Junior categories. They may enter any category.
4) Bases are allowed but will not be judged outside of a diorama category. No dimensional objects (Trees, Buildings, Rocks) should be present.
5) Upon registration, entrant will indicate their choice for category. The head judge reserves the right to evaluate and move the entry to the appropriate category, if necessary.
6) All judges will be experienced competition judges or will be paired with an experienced judge. Entries will be judged with fairness and integrity. No judge will be permitted to judge in any category in which they have entered.
7) Documentation (Kit instructions, Photographs, Written Materials) can be provided and displayed with the model to support Out of the Box categories or aftermarket additions.
Awards
1) 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Awards will be given out for all categories
2) Best In Show Award will be given by the Tate's representative including special prize awarded
3) Flight 19 President's Award will be given out for the Youth Categories and Overall, including prizes

Judging Standards
I.P.M.S. GUNDAM JUDGING STANDARDS
GUNDAM MODEL JUDGING CRITERIA
Gunpla are plastic models, and conventional Basic Modeling Skills are required to produce an acceptable representation of these fighting suits.
They are no different from conventional scale models -
FIT, FINISH AND PRESENTATION ARE CRITICAL COMPONENTS OF JUDGING.
Out of Box Builds
JUDGING BASED ON AN ASSESSMENT OF CONSTRUCTION & FINISH SKILLS
Models should not display evidence of the following construction issues:

Glue marks
-
Visible nubs
-
Uneven sanding
-
Gaps (improper fit issues)
-
Surface imperfections (unintentional)
-
Poor seam treatment (unintentional)
Allowances
-
Basic panel line treatments are allowed, but must be consistently applied.
-
Models should have a uniform non-paint finish, without unintentional flaws.
-
Kit-supplied stickers and/or decals are acceptable, but must be applied well.
-
Parts such as gun barrels or exhausts may be drilled out.
-
Static poses are allowed - but shouldn’t detract from the overall presentation.
Custom Builds & Dioramas
JUDGING BASED ON CONSTRUCTION, FINISH AND PRESENTATION
Overall Construction is expected to be free of the imperfections listed in the Out of Box category.. Models should not display evidence of the following finish issues:

Uneven or messy paint

Visible brush strokes
-
Uneven tone (unintentional)
-
Untreated panel lines
-
Decal silvering
-
Inconsistent application
-
Weathering, battle damage and/or advanced finishing techniques should be performed with skill, and be applied consistently over the entire model.

Modifications or enhancements, whether after-market or scratch-built, should be carried out with skill, and improve the overall look of the original kit.
-
The pose should take advantage of the design capabilities of the model.
The overall presentation should enhance the impact of the model - poor or unimaginative presentation may reduce overall score.
